I think this is appropriate. Suits such as this, while admirable on the surface, have deeply troubling aspects that far outweigh the feel good vibe. Allowing this suit to go forward changes US policy and opens the US up to suits from individuals around the world. Pre-trial discovery will bring state secrets into the open. Just a bag of worms that is not good for our country.

Bummer. Can't wait for Iraqi's to sue the USA over the Iraq invasion along with Vietnamese, Koreans.

We've just legitimized this sort of thing at least when it comes to unilateral action by a party.

I'm not really sure what they think will come from this. There is no way any country found guilty in a US court of law, is going to compensate someone. We have no actual power over them.
And it may open the US to similar lawsuits from other countries.
It's a simple emotional move not based on good judgment.

Agree with the others that this was simply an appeal to emotion.

Well if nothing else this will send our POTUS into a fit of pique seldom seen by a mom jeans wearing man.

It's interesting (funny/weird/ironic) that one of the few things Obama does that some people here praise ends with the veto being overridden for the first time in his presidency. Of all the things people here would have wanted to see overridden.
