Are they doing these polls via landlines?
Big discussion at work today. No one has a landline except the 60 year old guy. He said he gets polled daily.
Everyone else in the group was a mobile only person like me. None of us have been called.
Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Most mobile phones are not easily available. Landlines are.Bay_area_Hokie wrote:Big discussion at work today. No one has a landline except the 60 year old guy. He said he gets polled daily.

A few polls use cell phones.
If you have a well designed poll, it should be largely irrelevant.

Got a call on my cell last week. Was wise enough to hang up.

I've done at least one poll on a call to my mobile phone and one poll on a call to my wife's mobile phone (she was driving and I was a passenger so she had me answer an unknown number).Bay_area_Hokie wrote:Big discussion at work today. I'm probably just more lousy at getting my number in those the no call registry or whatever the best things to use now.

You think more Trump supporters don't have landlines than Clinton supporters? I would initially guess the opposite but it's an interesting discussion.Bay_area_Hokie wrote:Not good for Hills IMHO

Bottom line is that calls to cell phones for polls are illegal without specific permission that can be verified.
Unlike the Do Not Call registry, cell phones do not have an exclusion for political calls. I know from first hand experience that some candidates and campaign people ignore this because they know that in the end the atty general of the state won't prosecute them for political reasons and they are outsourcing the calling to a call center and they can claim ignorance and say they never told the center to break the law. I was doing direct marketing during the Obama campaign and one of his people told us that if we blocked cell phone numbers from the calling list he'd move the work, so he moved the work.
Call centers are required to filter out all cell phone specific prefixes and any landlines that have been ported to cell phones (they have 30 days).
So, yes calling polls are questionable at this point.

Looks like the only thing 1984 got wrong was the date.

No, what I was thinking is that mostly trump and Hillary supporters have land lines, so they are not counting votes for Johnson and Jill.
Johnson just vaporized his chance of 10% today though with his pothead inability to name a world leader. Lol.

Probably not good news for Trump either.Bay_area_Hokie wrote:No, what I was thinking is that mostly trump and Hillary supporters have land lines, so they are not counting votes for Johnson and Jill.
