Good. Statehood or Independence, I say. No more of this protectorate stuff with all the benefits of citizenship without any stake in the game.
I don't care if you're a Democrat or a Republican... if you refuse to consider alternatives to the two parties, you support the Status Quo and you are a major part of the problem.

That's why they'll never go for it. Speaking as someone who used to live there, the status quo is by far the most popular position among their electorate.Hokie CPA wrote:Good. Exactly why the ultimatum should be given. They either become a state or we cut 'em loose.I85hokie wrote:That's why they'll never go for it. According to Star Trek the Next Generation, the 52nd star was added to our flag in 2033 and there were 52 states until 2079. So we better hurry up and get Puerto Rico and one other state to join. (Or, optionally, chop California in half.)

Unless they're thinking PR and DC. Although, I think it'd be better to cut the District down to the federal offices from The Jefferson Memorial to the White House and from SCOTUS to the Lincoln Memorial and cede the rest of it back to Maryland. I believe the end result of that would be that pretty much everyone who LIVES in the District would be citizens of Maryland with full representation in Congress and the Senate while the Federal District would be limited to office buildings, right? That's what I'm going for, anyway. Bottom line is the District should NOT become a state. Put it back in Maryland and accomplish the same goals.BigDave wrote:According to Star Trek the Next Generation, the 52nd star was added to our flag in 2033 and there were 52 states until 2079. Sounds good to me.
