Why am I not hearing John Kasich's name from you guys more?
He seems like a reasonable candidate. Fiscally conservative. Socially conservative as well, but not going to go crazy about it.
What's wrong with him?

A lot of criticism from the right that Obama was not ready for the job applies to Rubio in my opinion.

Likewise, if you had nominated Jim Webb (or anyone else who isn't a complete libtard) you'd walk away with the election. Instead, your top 2 candidates are an old corrupt marxist revolutionary and the Senator from Vermont.ip_law-hokie wrote:It's a shame you guys have so many stupid necks in your party.USN_Hokie wrote:

I know he's from Ohio... He keeps repeating that in the appearances I've seen. Okay, John. You're from Ohio. What am I to do with that?ip_law-hokie wrote:He seems like a reasonable candidate. Fiscally conservative. Socially conservative as well, but not going to go crazy about it.

I haven't found a reason to support him. It is a big big field. He's an example of a candidate that should drop out.
Is he at 2%? 3%?

John Kasich: "God Bless Illegal Immigrants"

He is a RINO. And if you thought Romney was "wooden," then Kasich makes Pinocchio look like a contortionist.

Not all Republicans support rash immigration policies. See: Rubio, George W. Bush, McCain, Reagan, Fiorina, Jeb Bush.UpstateSCHokie wrote:John Kasich: "God Bless Illegal Immigrants"

It's really only Carson, Cruz, and Trump who are the hardliners. That doesn't make them the only Republicans. I'd argue it makes them extremists.

Not to start an immigration debate, but allow a quick t/j from Kaisich discussion.
It isn't necessarily "rash" to suggest we have a huge immigration problem. The D's want massive immigration so to have a sizable dependent underclass and forever secure the D's with their dream of a socialistic future. Period. It isn't humanitarian at all. It is nefarious.
There are pro-immigration Rs who simply want cheap labor.
All of it is short sighted. Build a wall and a moat of laser beam wielding sharks.

To answer the original question... Kasich is the kind of R that I like. He is the 1980's style establishment republican. If the GOP was full of Kasich's... I would happily rejoin the GOP and setup that big tent again.
But...
- the evangelicals want to fight an abortion war.
- the TP wants something good (balanced budget)... but insists on doing it only their way (without one penny of taxes increased) that they simply lack practicality.
Kasich might actually get good stuff done without slamming the middle class, shaming immigrants and rolling back women's rights. He would be great - I would take him over Hillary... and that's exactly why you guys would not want him

The so-called "Abortion war" is not limited to evangelicals, so that's an oversimplification. There are Pro-Life Democrats and Pro-Life Pubs who are not evangelicals.VoiceOfReason wrote:To answer the original question... Kasich is the kind of R that I like. I agree about with your comment for some of the Tea Party. Ted Cruz' wish of a balanced budget is shared by most/all politicians. However, pushing for it without tax increases is a non-starter.

But I'm not a big fan of Rubio... he does not have the spine Kasich has. He would cave to the TP and EvilGelicals to often... so he's a no-go for me. Not that you guys care what I think, lol. I actually think Kasich would stand up to the nuts... he's a guy I could support.

Well yes... oversimplification on a message board... plus using small simple words for some of this audience... I see your point.VisorBoy wrote: The so-called "Abortion war" is not limited to evangelicals, so that's an oversimplification. There are Pro-Life Democrats and Pro-Life Pubs who are not evangelicals.

Abortion is not limited to the Angel crowd... and that's not the only problem I have with them... by a long shot. I did use shorthand.
Here's an interesting nugget that with set this board off kilter... Cruz wants to RAISE my taxes. Have not seen this discussed recently on here... but every time you here a politician talk about "tax reform"... grab your wallet. All of the GOP candidates have plans that lower rates for everybody... which SOUNDS like it would lead to lower taxes for everybody... except it won't. It will lower taxes marginally for the poor. It will lower taxes in a major way for the wealthy. But it will INCREASE taxes for the working middle class that own their own home and itemizes. How? Because all of these plans limit or eliminate deductions (they call them "unfair deductions") which middle class families rely on. Which means more of their income is subject to taxes... and even at the lower rates... likely will exceed their current tax bill. Run the numbers... I already have. Right now... if you vote GOP and you are a middle class homeowner... you are voting for your taxes to be increased. Math...

That is way overblown once past the election.

There you go again. The mortgage interest deduction is sacrosanct and will never be eliminated under any reform plan short of a flat tax or fair tax.VoiceOfReason wrote:Well yes... oversimplification on a message board... plus using small simple words for some of this audience...
