Say...that's my neck of the woods.

This is a stupid issue. I'm on the side of just changing the name. It cracks me up when the proponents of keeping the name say, "The name of the school isn't important, the education is." My response, of course, is "If the name isn't important, why do you care if it is changed or not?"

This issue comes up every couple of years here. I give it 50/50 odds to change this time.

He really was a terrific & effective Confederate Lt. General.
The proponents of keeping the name are killing themselves by going into this uninformed.

Fact is... Forrest left the KKK & put it behind him (Sen Byrd, anyone?). And he did that at time where doing so was less politically & socially expedient than it was for Mr Byrd. Also, he was one of the few that wasn't "to the manor born" in the leadership ranks. This was a self-made man who climbed the ladder through hard work and effective result. THOSE are 2 things the proponents should emphasize.

That said, I can easily (easily!) imagine the chagrin a 14 year old black kid would feel walking through those doors. I wonder if there's a portrait or likeness anywhere?
