Suppose Hillary wins the nomination but is indicted? (Or she dies or it turns out she was born in Kenya or she is otherwise unable to run?)
If the President-elect dies before the inauguration, then the VP would take office and would appoint his or her replacement as VP. But what happens if she is nominated but unable to stand for election?
Hypothetical: what happens if a nominee is unable to run?

I don't think Hillary would be indicted prior to the election.BigDave wrote:Suppose Hillary wins the nomination but is indicted? (Or she dies or it turns out she was born in Kenya or she is otherwise unable to run?)

Fully vaccinated, still not dead

I don't think indictment legally disqualifies a candidate to stand for election. The candidate's party would probably have to negotiate with the candidate to either proceed on if the charges look easily beaten or to "take one for the team" and bow out of the process to strengthen the party's chance of winning in November.BigDave wrote:Suppose Hillary wins the nomination but is indicted? In the case of Clinton, if she's indicted on the email charges, she would probably have to bow out because those are damning in the minds of Americans and even she weren't convicted, she'd be hard-pressed to win an election under that cloud.
