California regulators have allowed more time: http://www.nasdaq.com/article/californi ... 0317-00749USN_Hokie wrote:http://www.marketwatch.com/story/could- ... 2016-03-16
This is good news, as new technology introductions sometimes need more time than planned to evolve into working production vehicles. The plant is up to 68% of its contractual commitments.
I'm most interested in hearing how much of the $1.5B in federal loans the company is planning to repay and when. Obviously, that can't be the primary focus right now - getting the technical side of things under control is most important right now.
In the final analysis, even if the plant fails, it is a learning experience that will still help move us down the path of finding alternative energy solutions.
Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly.

Quote from another article:
If true, that's TFBS considering that there's ~$1.5-1.6 billion in tax payer funding involved.PG&E buys electricity from two of plant’s “power tower” units under confidential purchase agreements – so it is not known publicly how much the plant is falling short.

But the unconventional solar-thermal project, financed with $1.5 billion in federal loans, has riled environmentalists by killing thousands of birds, many of which are burned to death — and has so far failed to produce the expected power.
You can't make an omelet without frying a few thousand birds! I wonder how many were endangered. I can't imagine the angst from VisorBoy and other progressives if this was a Koch backed project.
I wonder what other environmental damage is being done?

Yes, truly, VisorBoy's angst is tempered by political expedience.WestEndHokie39 wrote:But the unconventional solar-thermal project, financed with $1.5 billion in federal loans, has riled environmentalists by killing thousands of birds, many of which are burned to death — and has so far failed to produce the expected power.

A few thousand birds is not many. Somewhere close to 1 billion die ever year crashing into windows.WestEndHokie39 wrote:But the unconventional solar-thermal project, financed with $1.5 billion in federal loans, has riled environmentalists by killing thousands of birds, many of which are burned to death — and has so far failed to produce the expected power.
