John Boehner was right. A repeal and replace won't pass. Republicans are scared to take ownership of any healthcare "solution."

Because most Republicans are not conservative and are just Dumb lite.

The biggest problem with all of these plans is that they're only trying to address a very small part of the cost driver's of healthcare overall. From high med school tuition, expensive malpractice insurance, pharma companies for profit, hospital companies for profit, most people signing up were sicker than they predicted,. The baby boomers are aging, people are living longer, the American medical association controlling how many doctors matriculate each year like a guild...Each and every one of those things contributes to driving costs upward. The drivers are so much bigger than everyone paying premiums into the system. Any solution that addresses only one or two of these issues is just smoke and mirrors. Costs will continue to rise.

Take away the profit motive (from pharma and hospitals) and you'll get the lowest common denominator delivering your healthcare. Pharmacy innovation will be stifled and the best and brightest won't toil to become a doctor. The bonus will be a stream of 3rd world MD's with grasshut educations filling those slots the best and brightest once filled.

It's not the sole reason for the rise in cost, but it is inarguably a contributor. So if you can knock out 60% of those contributors you can make a huge dent in the cost driver's.

I think the for profit motive for pharma has helped drive innovation but is it more profitable to cure diseases or to treat them?

It's not pharmas job to cure diseases. Drugs primarily treat symptoms. There are biotechs and imuno companies that are working on those issues.

It's not passed fully yet...It still has to get thru the Senate and that debate will still be several weeks off.

From what I was told this morning at my sawbones office they're all for what they see in the bill...especially with block grant money for Medicaid staying in the States and not going to the Fed and then back to the State.
