NFL promotes:
Beer, brats, cars, viagra, life insurance, amway, auto insurance, cholesterol meds, etc etc

So I put (the dead dog) on her doorstep!
Salute the Marines
Soon we'll have planes that fly 22000 mph

Re: The Usuals won't like the Seattle Mariners either
I had no problem giving up my season tickets last year. I had them for 20 years, and thought I'd miss going to the games. You know what? I didn't miss it at all. Didn't even watch it on TV.
The idiot SF QB's protest was my last straw. I no longer wanted to go where politics were becoming more important than the game.
Best thing about it, I now have more money to spend in the Caribbean on vacation.

Way ahead of you bud. I've been boycotting the NFL for a decade.ip_law-hokie wrote: Are our strapping alpha male studs going to boycott the NFL because they are offended?

NFL's relevance will fade over the next 15-20 to a minor professional sport due to:
1. Demographic shift
2. Social justice warriors
3. Concussion / health studies
At some point it will be reduced to a bunch of guys in pink (rainbow for June) nerf suits playing touch football.

I didn't watch a single game last year (including the SB).ip_law-hokie wrote: Are our strapping alpha male studs going to boycott the NFL because they are offended?

Agree on #3. I actually like the idea of a 7-on-7 flag football league. That's what most fans play (or touch) once they stop playing organized football in high school anyway.USN_Hokie wrote:Way ahead of you bud. For those who hadn't seen, Vick has signed up to play in a trial game for the "American Flag Football League". Not sure if the public is ready to support it, but could be really interesting.

I do think there will be a day when football is played only by the boxing/MMA types, not your average suburban kid. I'm just not sure how much that is going the hurt the popularity of the sport. As it stands now, more people probably play baseball and basketball, yet the NFL is the most popular sport.

I'm more optimistic on the concussion issue. Education and better medical evaluations and treatments will hopefully reduce the health issues down the road.

There's just not much you can do outside of putting players in bubbles to eliminate the risk of head trauma. Sure, there will be athletes who still want to play, but as more and more players publicize their struggles after their playing careers end (and it may take another generation or two), the talent pool will decrease.nolanvt wrote:I'm more optimistic on the concussion issue. It will be a boon to other sports, notably baseball, basketball, and soccer. Getting ahead of the trend would be in the NFL's best interest, even if it means hedging against their own league by investing in a flag football league in parallel.
