Does anyone believe the Trump Care numbers? The CBO
provided some, saying iirc, that the first year costs would go up 10% and then fall 30%.
Sure they will.
They may be right, but why should we believe them?
The CBO analyzes numbers they are given. Garbage in, garbage out.
If obama said that 98% of people would be insured, and insurance providers would provide this much support and share the costs with the insured and the pool and i dunno, the russians...and the fee or tax would be $10 per month and the a bunch of other made up numbers, the CBO can only crunch the numbers they were given.
I doubt obama gave the CBO numbers saying that people would pay for coverage with a deductible of $10,000. What is the point in that?
Hence, insurance costs will come down $2,500 per year. Right CBO?
I don't think the exaggerations with the Rs are as great as the lies by obama, but i have no confidence in the numbers provided by the republicans, the alternative numbers from the democrats, the analysis by the media or the evaluations by the insurance industry.
Color me skeptical.

It's hard to say without knowing the implementation schedule. Are there certain aspects of the law that don't take effect right away? That could certainly explain the numbers you gave.
The CBO is nonpartisan and is well-represented by both Republicans and Democrats.
With Obamacare, the problem with the CBO projections were obvious - they claimed cost savings over 10 years - because we budget 10 years at a time - but that included two years of taxes that started before the subsidies were actually implemented. So you have 10 years of revenue and 8 years of expenditures - of course you make a profit. But I don't know of any sort of structural problem like that that would exist here.

You're right. And did the CBO reject the obama care numbers because of the apples to oranges comparison?
If i tell the CBO that my plan will give everyone a minimum of $150,000 per year, and taxes will remain as they are...and ask the CBO to measure the impact on the treasury, they will crunch those ridiculously implausible numbers.
Their report will be as ridiculous as my premise.

Is the CBO nonpartisan, or is the CBO FBI-nonpartisan?
So I put (the dead dog) on her doorstep!

I think they legitimately try, but they're subject to filtering things through their own biases. The FBI, on the other hand, has far more political hacks who want to have futures in their party. (which isn't to say that there aren't also dedicated public servants)RiverguyVT wrote:Is the CBO nonpartisan, or is the CBO FBI-nonpartisan?

First of all, they completely whiffed on their estimate/projections of Obamacare. They just magically estimated it would cost the exact amount ($900B) that Obama wanted it to cost. And they were dead wrong about that so they lost all credibility.
Second of all, I thought they were in the business of scoring the cost or savings of a bill. Since when did they get into the business of predicting how many people would "lose" (i.e. some people choosing not to have) healthcare coverage? What does that have to do with the cost of the bill? Just tell us how much it will cost or save. There is no way they can predict how many people will have healthcare coverage 10 years from now because there are too many market forces that they cannot predict.
My guess is the CBO is just a bunch of liberal academics that are as partisan as anyone. DC swamp creatures.

The basis for the CBO figures for the replacement plan is no better or worse than the basis for the original Obamacare. Take what you want from that.
