Is this happening where you guys live?

I need to film these same kind of places in Oakland for you. It's rougher.

Here is a story a day after my post.

http://www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti ... picks=true

I practice with a band at a rehearsal studio in the worst part of Oakland(West Oakland) and these have gotten bigger, and bigger, and bigger. Check out the map in the story and look at the western side of the City.

If the dude with the bridge of the nose piercing would have not spent his money on tattoos and bridge of nose piercing he could afford a pad. ;) :)

I guess shipping so many jobs to India and Mexico.....has turned the USA into India and Mexico.

Recipe for disaster.

Take one below average intelligence American
Make sure they get no education on money or personal finances at school.
Curse them with stupid parents
Appease them with drugs and liquor...keep em drunk and happy
Have the world blow by them at a million miles an hour.
Welcome to the third world Charlie.

Sucks

Daaamn.

Can't decide if I'm more impressed by the homeless tree fort, or the 2-story shanty villa.

The homeless couples always puzzle me the most. Even the nastiest, most disgusting woman should be able to find some man with a house that wants to sleep with her. Maybe it's love....or meth. Who knows.

Nothing like that in LA.

Just kidding. Skid row is better than it was a year ago, but it's still a disgusting pile of rotten humanity...or inhumanity.

It's going to become a big issue around election time.

Once a woman hits about 45 though, no one really wants her. This is why the legal system created alimony and community property. Otherwise you would have millions more middle aged women on public assistance. It is sad but true. These nasty homeless women made a bad partner choice and now there is not much they can do. If they were smart, and they aren't, they would get dolled up and find a 75 year old guy with money. Attractiveness is relative after all.

Agreed. You talk to the average legitimately homeless person for more than a few moments and it usually becomes quite apparent why they are homeless. Mental issues or or just dumb as rocks.

Stone Brewery consumed Allentown though. They're getting squeezed out, except the loons on the islands, they'll never get pushed out except by flood.

Oh yeah. They're islands in the river that the homeless set up camp on. It freaks me out a bit, I think I'm alone and then see something that looks like a Brazilian tribe set up in the bushes and animal like stares coming out of a human back at me .

I saw a TON of homeless when I was in SF a couple months ago (got cursed out by one of them). But no tent cities, they probably try to keep that stuff out of the tourist areas.

I only drove past Oakland, but it looked like a complete crap hole. Like a dumpier, more rundown version of Baltimore. And all of the buildings lining the highway were covered with graffiti.

I live out in the country, so no, people camping on someone else's land get shot out here.. oops, hunting accident

I work in Charlotte but not anywhere near the downtown, they are pretty good and keeping people from camping out in the open like that but no shortage of beggars downtown

It is odd. Hobos move in at night replacing yuppie mtn bikers and runners. Twilight foot traffic can be "interesting". One encampment (not on an island) is literally a baseball throw from the graves of some of America's finest forefathers, at Hollywood rapids.
