ACLU declares lynchings not Gov's business
As long as what you are doing is cultural tradition, it is not the state's role to interfere. I would imagine it would be easy to argue that lynching is a cultural tradition in the deep south or molesting children is a cultural tradition for muslims....so get your laws out of my traditions you facists.
"Then came an avalanche of criticism from progressive groups like the American Civil Liberties Union and immigrant aid organizations, who argue that it is not the state’s role to interfere with cultural traditions that run counter to American values."

Looks like the only thing 1984 got wrong was the date.

Politics above citizens and country. Yep, sounds like a democrat.

Democrats' argument is that it is already a crime under other statutes, but one of the DAs supports making it more straightforward in the law, and I agree.Vienna_Hokie wrote:As long as what you are doing is cultural tradition, it is not the state's role to interfere. This is one of those examples where a fundamental right has necessary limits; i.e. we cannot abrogate another person's rights in the name of religious freedom. Parents can't harm their children in the name of religion.
Do justice, love mercy, walk humbly.

No. You can't have a fundamental right which violates someone else's rights. Not sure what you're arguing against...USN_Hokie wrote:No. You can't have a fundamental right which violates someone else's rights. You're obviously confused in your logic since you think a person has a right to another's [healthcare] services (ie - slavery).VisorBoy wrote:Not sure what you're arguing against...USN_Hokie wrote:No. You can't have a fundamental right which violates someone else's rights. If you're trying to convince people that taxation is slavery, then you have quite an uphill climb ahead of you.USN_Hokie wrote:You're obviously confused in your logic since you think a person has a right to another's [healthcare] services (ie - slavery).VisorBoy wrote:Not sure what you're arguing against...USN_Hokie wrote:No. You can't have a fundamental right which violates someone else's rights. You can try and be cute, but government will always do what government does when a service/product becomes scarce. You're one step removed from the Venezuelan government officials arresting bakers for charging too much for bread. They probably think they're doing the "moral" think just like you, but it's really evil.
Re: ACLU declares lynchings not Gov's business
Killing Peter to feed Paul is wrong. On that we agree. Taxing Peter to help feed Paul (when Peter is able to afford such taxation) is quite different. Are you against all forms of welfare (i.e. even the disabled shouldn't get assistance from the gov't)?USN_Hokie wrote:A right to a service from another person is slavery.VisorBoy wrote:If you're trying to convince people that taxation is slavery, then you have quite an uphill climb ahead of you.USN_Hokie wrote:You're obviously confused in your logic since you think a person has a right to another's [healthcare] services (ie - slavery).VisorBoy wrote:Not sure what you're arguing against...USN_Hokie wrote:No. You can't have a fundamental right which violates someone else's rights. Accepting taxes doesn't endorse socialism. This line of reasoning is odd.VisorBoy wrote:Killing Peter to feed Paul is wrong. On that we agree. You can have no fundamental rights which violate another's fundamental rights. Having a right to the fruits of your labor is a fundamental right (otherwise you're a slave).

Nope, stealing is stealing. You're taking what's not yours, you're sinning, end of story. Jesus tells you what to do in the situation, he said for you to help. Not sure why you refuse to follow this simple and obvious instruction.
