Technology has created some interesting situations.

I'm more open to the idea of YouTube or similar social media platforms being considered utilities than I was in the past. Hopefully, we see some legitimate competitors arise.

Sounds like YouTube needs a competitor. They enjoy huge synergies by being part of the Google ecosystem in terms of ad revenue, so creating a competitor with a built in disadvantage would be tough. However, it is time.

I wonder if the unit economics of putting this on AWS pencil out. I think you need three zingers that would be needed to give the UWS video platform a chance. Maybe, other than making it less censored, you could create a monetization model for referrers, plus maybe pay more respect to existing copyrights.

Something like three big business model changes.....it is worth noodling over.

There are some who've tried, but when 90%(?) of Youtube traffic is still crazy cat lady videos, rap videos, and TMZ shots of Kim Kardashian's arse, it's pretty much impossible.

Yep. It's long past time to bust up Alphabet/Google. They've moved past monopolizing markets to monopolizing speech.

What do you expect? The CEO of Google is an import, coming here for grad school. He knows little of America, its culture, its norms outside of Silicon Valley. He's a foreigner at heart. Yet he wants to dictate how Americans should think. No thanks.
