Why everyone should be against statue removal

Post by Vienna_Hokie »

Who cares? It's just a statue and what can it hurt to take it down. It makes people feel bad or threatened or whatever and the only argument against taking it down is destroying history..yeah so what.

None of that matters at all. But, the reality is there is nothing being gained from removing those statues other than further empowering race baiters and pols who are pandering to the ignorant and the uninformed. They reinforce to the ignorant that their plight in life is not their fault, that the only way to make their life better is for someone to rescue them from the evil people that keep them down. Again, so what? If your life is impacted by stone figures in parks then you have other problems and probably do need help making day to day decisions.

And there is the issue and the reason why every reasonable person should be against the removal of statues of people they don't like. Because it accomplishes nothing and keeps anyone from facing the real issues that are impacting their lives.

The massive PC effort a decade ago to remove all Indian references from team names, universities, etc cost a ton of money and news cycles and now what? Are the lives of Indians any better today as a result? Alcoholism and drug abuse is still rampant on reservations, none of the issues that cause them to live massive below the poverty line have changed.

And now the latest version of three race card monty (look over here so you don't realize that you keep voting for us to further make you beholden to us so you'll have to vote for us again) is confederate flags and statues.

And when nothing changes and the lives of people of color do not improve, then what? What's the next symbol to blame? Something that IP and Hoof care about this time? At that point will they protest the removal of those symbols for no reason? But that's OK, make yourself feel morally superior by supporting this waste of time because your life isn't impacted, and it makes you feel better to help those that people that you don't really care about as anything other than political pawns.

Who are the real racists?
Looks like the only thing 1984 got wrong was the date.

Good points.

Following the leftist logic in C-ville, they should be tearing down Monticello and the Rotunda next, right?

As Bill Clinton would say, tearing down a statue never fed a hungry child.
