Trump cutting Obamacare subsidies
This looks like it could be big. Trump is accelerating the demise of Obamacare, forcing R's to action just before the election.

Re: Trump cutting Obamacare subsidies
It's a legit action. The funding is not in the budget; there is no legal mechanism for paying the insurers. Congress has just gone along with the Obama administration in allowing these "illegal" payments. Just another piece of the ACA that wasn't detailed. Good on Trump for adhering to the letter of the law.
Just another step forward in forcing Congress to take action on this horrible bill. It might hurt a little, but if it gets us to a better place sooner rather than later then I'm okay with that. We can't get deeper and deeper into the chasm that is the ACA or we'll never get out.

Re: Trump cutting Obamacare subsidies
exactly correct, the payments were illegal to start with. check out the comments in articles on it tho, there is so much bad info out there on obamacare. It is amazing that people are still saying it is the best thing ever considering the shape it is in now, much less after the EO's133743Hokie wrote:It's a legit action. The payments were not illegal because it was under appeal.

Trump took it out of the hands of the court, which is in his power.

Actually the payments were not appropriated therefore they ARE illegal until a court rules otherwise.TheH2 wrote:The legality was being settled in court.133743Hokie wrote:It's a legit action. Allowed to challenge and continue to make payments, therefore not illegal.133743Hokie wrote:Actually the payments were not appropriated therefore they ARE illegal until a court rules otherwise.TheH2 wrote:The legality was being settled in court.133743Hokie wrote:It's a legit action. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand there was no authority given by congress for those payments. This is how a non-statist government is run...and is, by all indications, an excellent chess move by Trump.

There is/was no legal mechanism for the subsidies.TheH2 wrote: Exactly, that's all I was saying.
Congress controls the purse strings, not the President. Acknowledging that he can stop the payments is admittance they were illegal.
