(eye roll at the subject line for obvious reasons)

Opponents of Nike's marketing strategy claim that 1200 people die every year in shoe-related violence.[http://abc13.com/archive/9368193/]

Those numbers seem high ... but ...

If every school shooting demands that we ban guns, why aren't we banning these sneaker marketing campaigns, or at least requiring that Nike be held accountable for providing adequate security?

I honestly don't understand why people are so obsessed with shoes ... but when you have these things going for tens of thousands of dollars on eBay and you tell poor people - REGARDLESS OF RACE - that their chance to make $10k of easy money is to go buy these shoes and flip them, the results are predictable.

Roll your eyes all you want, they largely don't put the same energy to get into college that they do to get $400 shoes. There's a racial aspect to that, no matter how uncomfortable it is. It isn't a problem with marketing, it's a problem with the buyers. This was actually a tamer shoe sale, many have shootings along with the pushing. And of course this is happening in food deserts and all the places people say that they're missing opportunity. They can't do something to better themselves, but can burn hundreds on shoes. That's the core problem, putting the wrong things into the top priority. A book would change their life more than a pair of shoes and it's 1/10th the cost.

That's my point, same ratio of blacks and whites as are in the NBA.

And my broader generalization holds, blacks aren't putting this type of energy into self betterment, which would give them all they claim they want the government to give them. I'm holding onto them voting for liberal socialists 90-95% of the time as proof of wanting enrichment from the government.

Swing and a miss Ace.

I'm surprised this is even debated. Uncomfortable? yes. Debatable? Not really. Even Will-I-Am has said so much in regards to Obama. He said black people are sitting on their rear waiting for Superman to come in and save them. They thought Obama was Superman and he wasn't. They need to realize Superman isn't coming, it's up to them to do the things necessary to better themselves as only the individual can better themself. Will-I-am gets it and he's done great for himself. Same thing here, a lot of those people obviously could have spent that money on better things than shoes. Same ones have smart phones and PlayStations while claiming poverty and need for food stamps. Their month of eating is on their feet or in their hand.
