That's just not true, they were pushed there by the courts. Only a handful had voted to legalize gay marriage. The issue was forced on the states by the courts, not popular vote. Bans largely won by popular vote.BG Hokie wrote: Prior to the Supreme Court ruling, 38 states allowed gay marriage in some fashion. So, yes, the will of the people in those states got the ball rolling. And, for what it's worth, I don't necessarily agree with the Supreme Court decision. The ends don't justify the means.

Let's leave gay marriage out of thisBG Hokie wrote:I'd rather leave this issue to the states. Donald Trump said the same in 2016. Why you guys hate Donald Trump and Federalism? I thought the Colorado Republican, Cory Gardner has a respectable stance on the issue. Or if you wanted your statement to have any relevance to the issue at hand, you could hold state elections to state that the prohibition on speed limits and robbing banks shall be lifted.

Re: Sessions screws the pooch
The National speed limit is not a bad analogy. It was set at a stupid low limit of 55, and almost no one obeyed it. States fought to get rid of it. They made some progress to loosen fed control. Then, in 1995, they got the fed law completely repealed and the fed now has no power over speed limits.awesome guy wrote:Screw 1995!HokieFanDC wrote:1995 called and wants its' federal law back.awesome guy wrote:The feds mandate what states can set as speed limits. Similar arc as most reversals of most fed power grabs, and it has worked out for the better.

Feds don't set speed limits, therefore they don't enforce them. You guys are missing the point, the federal government can't stand by and watch open lawlessness or they secede authority by default. Regardless of what you think about the law, we have to follow the law. This is the biggest issue for Sessions outside of Crooked Hillary as it's an issue of federal authority.
