One womans take on her time in Africa
This is an interesting read and provides some insight and perspective. Whether you think o many of these countries are shirtholes or not, there is no question that their cultural values are at odds with ours. If they aren't willing or able to assimilate into our culture, and they have no discernable skills, why should we allow them in our country? What's the benefit to the broader "us"? Call me racist but I just don't see ant rationale.

It should not matter what their skin color is. If their culture and belief systems are at odds with ours, or make the living conditions of their country horrific, we should not want them here.133743Hokie wrote:This is an interesting read and provides some insight and perspective. What I hear from the left when they make these accusations of racism is that they want to bring people here BECAUSE they are black and brown. And they want to exclude people BECAUSE they are white. They are the ones making this all about race.
There are plenty of countries in Eastern Europe that are mostly white that I would consider to be sh!tholes, so its not about race.

This is an easy thing to fix.
Remove the welfare state and you can allow open immigration which creates an environment where anyone who wants to be a productive part of American society can succeed.l

Essentially that is what we had 100 years ago. A booming industrialization that needed labor so we brought in immigrants. They got decent jobs, they made money, they established themselves. There was no welfare safety net so they had to work or starve.USN_Hokie wrote:This is an easy thing to fix.

Today we have a technology and service knowledge boom. It requires labor with specific skills, not brute force. Not just any immigrant can fill a job. Yet they still come here, and the safety net supports them.

It doesn't do anyone any good to sugar coat the fact that with the exception of some parts of South Africa, Morroco/the north east coast, and parts of Egypt... Africa is in fact a total "shithole" - use whatever term you want to describe corrupt, genocidal, rapists dictators and lawless governments, starving, AIDS riddled populations, barbaric societies, honor killings, genital mutilations, etc. It's by and large a total shithole. Any other word parcing is just liberal bullshit. Trump was correct- that's why so many dems are pissed.133743Hokie wrote:This is an interesting read and provides some insight and perspective. Yep- some libertarians support open borders, but more (including me) don't unless the US eliminates the welfare state. In fact, like you, I support open immigration, not necessarily open borders- I believe the US always needs to do screening.USN_Hokie wrote:This is an easy thing to fix.

No matter what, we still have national security concerns. AndI still don't want open immigration as that will flood us with Central and South Americans who will just turn America into a craphole like most of Central and South America. They'll vote themselves into the nightmare they're fleeing as they're not bright enough to comprehend that they create their own woe. Same with any liberal/socialist/communist. I'd ban liberals from migration to southern states too for the same reasons.

Sounds like a socialist utopia. Let’s ship all the Antifa fans there.

Doesn't sound much different from Detroit, Baltimore, or any other predominantly African-American neighborhood. It's time to recognize that because various factors, including progressive racism towards them, African-Americans are largely an unassimilated group of immigrants. Their problems stem from still clinging to African culture. Some reasons are their fault, some aren't. The how they got here aspect isn't import, the how to get out of that cultural quagmire is important.
