SpaceX launched another rocket last week. They decided to have the stage one booster try and land on water, and it did. They fired the boosters, slowed it down (although this was sort of a high speed landing), and apparently it then just rolled over on its side and floated. Supposedly they were testing a high powered landing and didn't want to damage one of the floating drone ships so they did it over water. Musk said he fully expected it to explode upon impact.
