Trump just went after Oprah on Twitter...

I don't think this was the smartest move (Oprah is pretty popular), but I would think Trump must be pretty confident she won't run to say this.
Personally, I don't think she runs. As I said before, she has an extremely carefully groomed public persona which would be shattered by her candidacy. I'm guessing there's some dirt in her past too.

Jesus already told her not to run. Of course this was ignored by the left after mocking Pence for saying Jesus spoke to him.

This will for sure cement her place as the new queen of the #Resistance.

He’d do well to be more judicious in his tweets.

Oprah would be another mascot candidate like Obama - thus very formidable. No chance she runs though why would she want that shitty job?

Trump is actually right.

There was definite bias to the Oprah segments on 60 Minutes. The basic premise that the nation is divided because Trump is President is wrong. Do they really think that there was no division when Obama was President? When Bush was President? When Clinton was President?

It's myopic to think that just because your party lost that everybody feels the same way you do. There were a lot of people that I knew who were upset and angry when Obama and Clinton were President because they didn't like the way things were being done. Similarly, there were the same kind of sentiments when George W. Bush was President.

And where were the Democrats condemning Bill Clinton when women accused him of sexual assault and rape? Both sides play the game of ignoring misbehavior when the person is on their side. That was jarringly obvious last night.

I have no issue with him going after Oprah, if she is going to stick her biases into the public with the junk on 60 minutes then she is fair game

"Hi, I’m Oprah
I'm the spokesperson for Weight Watchers but can't control my weight. I tell you how to run your marriage but I can't commit to marriage.
I tell you how to raise your kids but I don’t have any.
I am very spiritual, but don’t go to any church or identify as Christian.
Even though I knew about Weinstein and the casting couch, I was silent, but I support the Me too movement.
I am racist to the core, but blacks can’t really be racist, so that doesn’t count.
I’m black and female, so I check all the boxes.
I praised Denmark for their Socialism, though I am a billionaire due to Capitalism, the economic system that allowed a dirt poor child from Mississippi to rise to world renowned fame and wealth.
The first time I openly endorsed a presidential candidate it was a black one, Obama.
Before a black candidate, I was not political. Vote for me, and I will give you transformational change, the kind you got from Obama."

I think her past has been pretty well raked over. Some family member (I think her father?) wrote a book. The skeletons in her closet seems to have to do with a dead beat father (or estranged for a long period?) and a sibling (s?) who have come out to say she won’t give them any money/isn’t generous (or something of that nature. SHRUG.

I didn’t see the program that upset the president (1. I didn’t know it existed, but 2. I find oprah annoying so I wouldn’t have watched it anyway). Does anyone know what she said about him? Or is he upset because of the content of the comments her guests made?

Okay - I just went to watch it for myself. It’s 24 minutes of your time. Oprah still annoys me (and truthfully so did one of the two of the liberals and three of the conservatives in the group), but I’m glad I watched it because I now have seen the content that motivated his tweet and I came away thinking, “what the hell is he complaining about?” He was treated extraordinarily fairly. I don’t understand the mind who could watch that and decide to blast out a tweet.

Would one of you volunteer to go look at it?

Okay. Sorry, i was interrupted a couple of times. it was interesting, and I suspect was highly edited. It did show clearly, however that intelligent and reasonable people can disagree without resorting to ad hominem attacks and wholesale denunciation based on one comment or one position. It was also interesting to hear some admit to misinterpretations of the written word and the benefit of face to face communication. It also demonstrated that people can change, everyone can listen, and can disagree without being disagreeable. These are hopeful signs.
Regarding Trump and his tweets, I couldn't tell you what he tweets. I don't follow them or read them, nor those of anybody else. In my opinion twittering is just another banality along the long tending downward spiral of intelligent life. The one fellow quite astutely called Trump a counter puncher. it's his calling card, and he is quite good at it. Others before Trump let attacks slide and tried to stay above it while opponents libeled , slandered and falsely stereotyped them. Trump is ego driven, pompous, bombastic, and braggadocio . He is also shrewd and quite brilliant at coopting the tactics of his opponents. It enrages them and elicits outrageously overplayed responses which serve to help Trump and hurt the left (not to mention butthurt neverTrumpers). A classic example of this is his co-opting the the term "fake news". Eric Schmidt, The NYT, WaPo, CNN, et.al. have been beaten to death with it. They thought it was going to be a brilliant strategy to marginalize Fox and Drudge and internet based conservative news and opinion. Well, that didn't work out so well - just like an election that was sure be a slam dunk.

Sorry to ramble on there. just my two cents.

I agree with everything you said, including the fact that it was most assuredly highly edited. Questions it raised for me were:

On the face of things, there was nothing there to counterpunch, so why?

It left me thinking, “wow, that’s an impulsive and over-the-top reaction to a puffy piece in which he wasn’t portrayed unfairly.” Then I thought, “well, many of us live in bubbles where we aren’t necessarily surrounded with the wide spectrum of political viewpoints, so maybe I heard it with a slant that serves my views.”

Background: I live in California and don’t know many conservatives other than family still living in the south. I have one cousin who is currently tangling with the Supremes, et. al. because he’s redistricting council for the RNC, but he’s an outlier and could never be described as someone who aspires to understanding all sides of an issue, etc. note - he was always a douchebag. Being Republican has nothing to do with it. He’s the first cousin who tries to kiss you on the mouth and comes at your face while licking his lips, but I digress.....

All that said, I am left feeling that in this instance, Trump is just being petulant;by definition, his reaction isn’t a counterpunch because he wasn’t attacked; and that he’s being a giant snowflake.

I don’t tweet or read Twitter either. Unfortunately, what’s on Twitter these days gets reported in the news, a fact that I’m sure many conservatives don’t enjoy since the content of his tweets more often than not open him up to further ridicule.
