The place is hell on earth for most of it's citizens. It's in Spanish so let me translate:

The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, degraded and expelled from the armed forces 24 official opponents, most arrested or exiled. Mature ordered measures against 11 military assets and 13 in condition of withdrawal, accusing them of trying to depose the Government "by violent means", with "undue and disproportionate use of weapons of war", and other crimes such as incitement to rebellion.
The decision was unveiled yesterday Friday and is contained within the Gazette official of Venezuela, dated February 28, which stated the sanctions against 24 members of the force Navy national Bolivarian (possibility) "for trying to violently change the Republican form of the nation".
The decree is charged in addition to having "created State of imbalance and distress, having made an attempt against the freedom and independence of the nation, and abuse, excessive and disproportionate use of weapons of war endangering the independence and" sovereignty of the nation".
The list includes retired Captain Juan Carlos Caguaripano, arrested on 11 August last, six days after commanding an assault on a military base in the North of the country which killed two of his companions. According to the Government, the officer stole weapons of that garrison.
Caguaripano is declared in "default" for the actions of the security forces against opposition protests that left about 125 dead between April and July 2017. It had already done so during demonstrations that resulted in 43 deaths in 2014.
The sanctioned also include old allies of Maduro and his deceased predecessor Hugo Chávez, Raúl Baduel as Herbert García Plaza. Baduel, former Minister of Defense of Chavez and man key in restitution after the coup d'etat that took out it of power for 48 hours in 2002, is in prison for an alleged plot against Maduro.
Meanwhile Garcia Plaza, former Minister of the current President, is on the outside after breaking with him.
The active military had the rank of Lieutenant, and eight of them escaped from the Ramo Verde military prison last November.
Mature considered to all sanctioned "unworthy of belonging" to the possibility and has that retirees will lose their medals.
For Rocío San Miguel, an expert on military issues, the ruling pressuring the possibility amid the deep political and socio-economic crisis, just when it seeks re-election in elections in next May 20 until 2025.
These decrees against military opponents "are effective as a means to exert greater coercion in the national armed force, to demonstrate, by the head of State and Commander in Chief, against competitors, has power over the possibility", San Miguel wrote in an article. The armed forces is considered the mainstay of Maduro, who the high command often swears "unconditional loyalty" by analysts.
In campaign.
Mature it yesterday predicted an overwhelming participation in the elections of 20 May and said to be a "lesson" for countries that ignore them as Colombia, United States, and Spain.
"I have absolute certainty that voter turnout numbers go to impress the world and will be a lesson to the (Juan Manuel) Santos, (Donald) Trump and the (Mariano) Rajoy", said Maduro after signing an agreement electoral guarantees with other two applicants.
Threat to the safety of U.S.
United States yesterday extended its Declaration of "national emergency" with respect to Venezuela, on the grounds that the situation generated by the regime of Nicolas Maduro is still a threat to national security and US interests, the White House said.
The Declaration of a "national emergency", allowing a U.S. President to apply sanctions against a country beyond what was approved by the Congress, was issued on 8 March 2015 by President Barack Obama. This Decree, whose validity was extended in 2016 and 2017 by Obama, was based on the existence of violations of human rights, reduction of press freedom, arbitrary arrests, persecution of opponents and "exacerbated" Government corruption.
I only post using 100% recycled electrons.
