Once they become professionals, their ties to the actual academic part of the University will be virtually nonexistent.
Paying athletes is a ridiculously stupid idea. All done and the name of socialist fairness. It is the ruination of college athletics and is on the horizon.
The quest for fairness. Once again causing disaster.

We don't...
So what happens when the athletic dept. is in the red? fire coaches? or staff? Keep in mind that most stats you look at there are like less than 10 schools nationwide that show any kind of surplus ever.

Amen and I will stop giving the second that happens too. The fact that these kids feel they are entitled to a salary beyond tuition, books, etc. is ridicuous. VT football gives them exposure and marketing they literally couldn't buy. And its harsh, but expendable employees like high school football players are just that- expendable. They are everywhere, others can be found cheaper if it gets to that. Paying college players is a horrid- not to mention- unscabale idea.

I think the football and men's basketball players should be paid, and that you should stop donating to the sports program.

How much? Should they be taxed in NY when we play Syracuse? Will they be at-will employees that can be fired for no reason? Sure, it's simle "just pay them"..

Stuff like this is handled everyday. Pro players pay taxes. College players can pay taxes too. I don’t understand the problem.
