The Vatican says that he did not say that.

The journalist who reported that the pope said these things is a devoted atheist, doesn't record his interviews, was going off of memory, and is 93-years-old. That interview shouldn't be taken at face value.

I'm Catholic, a complete skeptic and no fan of this pope, who I regard as a corrupt politician.
That said, I agree with BigDave. This story is fake news.
