An Islamic organization once listed by the Justice Department as a co-conspirator in a high-profile terror case is among many groups that have received thousands in federal farm subsidies, without producing any crops.

The subsidies to the North American Islamic Trust are just a slice of the questionable payments that, as has been well documented, go to millionaires and non-farmers every year. But as Congress moves to rein in the program, these subsidies stand out considering the group's involvement in the Holy Land Foundation case of 2008. During the trial, the group's farm subsidies stopped, only to be reinstated after a federal judge cleared them.

Between 2008 and 2011, the U.S. government awarded roughly $6.12 million in federal farm subsidies to several groups in the Chicago area, including a charity owned by Louis Farrakhan’s The Nation of Islam, according to a report released by government watchdog group Open the Books.

farm subsidies would be a great place to cut if we wanted to address deficit spending. 0% chance that happens, b/c both parties take $$$ from the recipients of this welfare.

Yes as with any gov (any program at all at any level) there is abuse and fraud, but do you want more folks on food stamps as food prices get slammed every time we have a major drought? Yes there are issues in farm subsidies but some of them are actually necessary to keep the farmers that feed you from going under and thus not feeding the nation and other nations anymore. All farm subsidies are not bad but see first sentence.
