There's nothing inappropriate about using publicly available information to report a popular media personality's name in a news story about that popular media personality and their influence.

Doxxing is more akin to releasing the names (and more personal info) of 'innocent bystanders' when there is no journalistic need.

Further, there's normative value in identifying the media personality by name. A person who seems to be co-operating with others who make the lives of some teachers a living hell should at least be open to having to defend their actions in public without the luxury of hiding behind their keyboard.

People who act like jerks when they're anonymous and polite when they aren't are the very definition of cowardly hypocrites. It appears the person in question plans to continue their trashy channel, and in that very limited sense, I applaud them.

Instead of exploring the more interesting phenomenon of how left-wing educators’ TikTok videos became viral sensations, even jumping from social media to cable news, Lorenz had her mind set on — in her own words — “exposing” the woman behind the account.

Instead of asking why so many teachers are making TikTok videos about their political agendas in the classroom, Lorenz lazily turned to activists at far-left institutions like Media Matters and the ACLU for comment on how an account curating these public videos is “secretly fueling the right’s outrage.”

Gillian Branstetter, a media strategist for the ACLU, characterized the Libs of Tik Tok account as “finding new characters for right-wing propaganda,” as opposed to what the account is actually doing, which is sharing already viral online public videos posted by the so-called “characters” themselves.

After a second look, I take them all back. If the Columbia Journalism School offered a class called “Dogshit Exposés,” this would be on the prospectus. It may not be first-week material, but it’s in the course.
