Back in reality, military (especially Army) recruiters are some of the most desperate people I've ever met.

While unlikely, a better answer is probably some flavor of legally required limited duration conscription, ala Switzerland. But for that to actually work we'd need quite a different kind of federal government and not the goofy two party thing.

I won't defend Gen Z, but humans aren't suddenly THAT different. Certainly-not-Gen-Z Clarence Thomas whined about more pay for his government job and it apparently worked for him!
