No disrespect to any of these candidates, some of whom may have some good ideas. They just need to get those ideas picked up by one of the major parties.
And nice inclusion of the Socialist Party... but I am far from a socialist. There is plenty of room to the left of this board without coming anywhere near socialism

Interesting that you think you're "duped" only when you don't vote to maintain the two-party system.

Gosh! Our Embassy was attacked.
Yeah. The WH is saying it is due to a video.
What video?
I dunno. Some video.
Did the president notice today's date? The attack was 9/11.
Seems like the obvious reason. Anniversary of 9/11.
Yup.
Video?
Yeah, I know, right?
Have you seen the video?
Nope.

Video. LMAO.

Yeah chuck, some radical islamists were out boozing it up with mortars and rpgs, then decided to coordinate a drunken attack on the embassy.

I don't know, and I don't care, since I don't support any political party. Probably not as long as people think that way, though "3rd" parties have won various elections before, including president.
I just think it's interesting that you think that it's the people voting outside the two party system that are the ones being duped, as opposed to the ones maintaining the established parties.

Chuck, the reason you never made it to combat is because you'd have done more to endanger the entire troop than you would've done to help. They knew this about you the day you enlisted. You weren't looking to serve...you were looking for a meal ticket. And that's why you mopped so many floors.

Yeah. Apparently you'd only be interested in how many other people supported the 3rd party. If other people would support it, then, lemming like, you would too.
Me? I'd actually be more interested in the ideas being advocated by the third party.

My comments above pertained to the idea of issuing a "protest vote" to a 3rd party candidate in the hopes that my party (the Rs at the time) would take note and change their direction back to where I could support them again. Obviously, that was a stupid idea and it had no effect on the R party.
Believe me, if there was a serious attempt at a third party that was progressive on social issues and ready to tackle government spending and the debt in a way that did not put it all on the middle class while allowing the powerful to get even richer... then I would be all for these guys.

A third party is a party obviously. My point wasn't to suggest that he should support a particular one, but was to point out the absurdity of believing that they are specifically the duped ones, and now that he votes for one of the two major parties, the democrats, he's no longer duped.

WADR... I think we are now talking about two different kinds of "duped". The word "duped" was used specifically in one of these recent threads as meaning "being fooled by a specific candidate who ran as one thing and has become another." In that context, I have not been duped by any of the Rs or Ds I have voted for (on those occasions where they won).Marine Hokie wrote:A third party is a party obviously. I think your context for being duped is a more broad commentary on the two party system, to which I agree your statement has some validity for those who show fealty to a specific party regardless of what positions they take.

I don't pretend that I was never duped into votes also. Again, what you or I did years ago doesn't necessarily apply today. Because you used to vote for republicans decades ago doesn't make you not a line-towing democrat today. I admit I was a line-towing republican years ago. You're the only one who thinks that matters, not me. In other words, I wouldn't have voted for Bush in 2000 if I could do it over. Would you prefer Bush or Gore if you could do it over today?

Good question. I don't regret my votes for Reagan or Bush Daddy at all. As for Dubya vs. Gore... hmm... in hindsight I would say I would have preferred Gore. But it is difficult to project how he would have handled 9/11, Afghanistan and the economy. IMHO, it's safe to assume we would not have gotten into Iraq.Marine Hokie wrote:I don't pretend that I was never duped into votes also. Maybe we differ on what "line-towing" means. I have shown in my history that I am capable of turning my back on my party when I see them taking positions I disagree with. I was FAR more in the tank for the Rs back in the day then I am for the Ds today - likely because I am older and wiser. Call me "line-towing" if you want, but that is pretty meaningless. If the Ds go in a direction I disagree with... or if the Rs get back to the party I used to like, I will have no problem dumping the Ds. IMHO, that is not "line-towing" at all.

Well he's keeps jumping around. First it's that "the party left me" and he'll be happy to vote for republicans as soon as they become more Reagan/Bush I... but that doesn't make sense, unless he's considering Obama to be more like Reagan/Bush I than McCain/Romney (maybe he is?).
Then he admits that his views have changed over the years, which is pretty much my point anyway.

Re: Wow, FoxNews and their minions have been so full of it.
I could have made it anywhere I wanted in the military. I scored a 89 on my ASVAB the day after I turned 17. At 18 and a few months, I finished third out of eighteen in my A School and had my choice of orders. Many of the guys I was competing woth there were well into their 20s. And also, I have a 137 IQ and just completed a 90 Credit Master's Degree program. Again, I could have made it as far as I desired in the Navy. I instead became aware fairly early on that what was happening there had little to do with defending my country so I moved on. I served one year with Americorps and did more for the greater good there than my entire time in the military. You're quite welcome for that service too.free hokie wrote:Chuck, the reason you never made it to combat is because you'd have done more to endanger the entire troop than you would've done to help.
