I think he was here for a few posts. He may show up for more once things settle in. Like Dave, I'm curious who "RWNJ", the new poster who recently signed up here, is.

Do you know how/why uwsboard.com is being blocked? Is it keywords? Is it that sites have to be pre-approved?

Have you tried using tapatalk?

I think "techsideline.com" is not blocked because the URL sounds like it could be something related to technical publications or equipment, and those types of sites are permitted where I work. But in general, most other sites are blocked if they have any kind of URL that does not sounds like it would be work related.

Hmm ... techboards.org is available (which sounds like a cool name to have for possible future use). Do you think that would pass the filter?

If you go to http://techboards.org/ that now is an alternate name for uwsboard.com

Not to worry swabbie, I'm here.

All the while enjoying the different atmosphere on the soapbox.

A lib echo chamber with seemingly, the cons browbeaten into submission, cowed into silence and mocked into timidity.

Like libs everywhere, they are exceedingly smug, and convinced of their ideological infallibility.

Mocking, insults, and name calling in place of debate.

Multiple posters have thoughtfully advised that I won't learn with my current posting style. My style is combative, really? I should be more thoughtful, less strident and more open.

Like lib foreign spicy with Russia. Be nice, learn things.

And get screwed.

Like the open minded libs go to anonymous message boards to learn.

Libs go to preach. Again convinced of their ideological superiority they will convert the "open minded" and ridicule the recalcitrant.

I've been called worse I suppose...than a pointed head academic know it all. However, usually, it's not from someone who runs to another board to do so. But, maybe that's what makes you "unique", and for the most part unwanted elsewhere.

As far as the rest of your post...lets do fact check. Hmmm, yes I am married to a teacher and have spent quite a bit of time working full time and going to school full time. I'm not sure why any of that would be the source of scorn, but have at it. Call me a pointed head academic know it all if it makes you feel better. What world do I live in? Well, one where I choose to discuss one's differences rather than jump straight to insult. And no, in that world I just described, UVA is not a heavyweight in football. It says hokie right in my username...on both boards. As far as my politics, you could have done a quick check/search on my username there to see that I'm actually one of the cons...certainly not a socialist. But you didn't have time to learn about my views or others, what with your busy schedule of calling me a know it all and making false assumptions and all...

All I tried to do was make it a bit easier for you and your friend to post there. Being a hokie with conservative views, I thought I might save you the same hiccups that I encountered...you didn't want any part of that though, and elected to go to insults. So have at it.

Hey I got a stupid and unrelated question. They say the only stupid question is the one not asked. This will test that theory. Here it goes. Do you know of a cure/relief for landsickness? That feeling like you're still on a boat after you're back on the ground. I get it worse and worse each trip. I've been off the kayak for 5 hours and am still rocking in my head. I think I make it a little worse with the crazy schedule I run. Got up at 3:30 this morning, drove to the beach, fished 7am to 7pm and then bolted back home 2 hours away. So I'm tired too boot. Anyway, this rocking is making me dizzy.

Lake MonticellHokie - I apologize for singling you out. I admit I have not spent enough time there to know who is lib and and who is con. My comment here was more about the over all mood of the board. People are really touchy over there, but I guess that's probably not a surprise to you.

Can you tell me why oak's posts there have everyone so upset? Sure he has his own unique way of expressing his opinions, but he's not starting threads to attack anyone - at least not individual posters. He may say something about libs in general, but are his posts any worse than what others on there say about conservatives, or Rush Limbaugh? I doubt it.

Or is the fact that he's a hokie magnify the indignation?

Again, my apologies for calling your a pointy headed academic. If I really wanted to insult you, I would have called you worse.

your question of why oakton's got everyone upset has been answered already a few times. Here is a response by...hoodafan (who is also a righty...) who answered it here: http://www.thesabre.com/message_board/s ... 133529.php

To go further, in that same thread, oakton mentiond flat out that he really has no interest in engaging in disucssion or learning, but rather "sparring." I'm not sure why it's so tough for you and him to figure out why that posting style isn't appreciated...on any board, or anywhere. Do either of you talk to others that way in other areas of your life..work, your family?

It's actually kind of a shame, b/c im sure you're both pretty smart, not sure why someone would want to go online and pick a fight. It just strikes me as odd. No he didn't "personally" attack posters individually, but he simply attacked whole groups...w/o really knowing what he was talking about regarding their beliefs.
I probably share many of the same positions as you and oakton, you both seem like you know your stuff (and yet you both managed to sling some junk my way too)...but the style of posting isn't welcome.

I understand that the immediate comeback would be something along the lines of "have you seen some of the other stuff that is posted there...cursing, etc?" And my answer is Yes, of course I have. But there is a bit of history there with most of those posters. There have been some extreme personal attackes in to their personal lives (i'll just leave it at that...). So, some will naturally not tolerate a post of others, even if it seems harmless at first glance. Mostly, I choose to simply stay out of that.

Let me make this real simple....UWS as a TSL forrum got the ax, right? So Oakton goes to the sabre, and within a few days, it's likely going to get the ax or become a pay board. Why do you suppose that is? Is it because they're nothing but "lib echo chambers" that cant tolerate sensible, conservative thought? Or, is the more likely scenario that it has nothing to do with his (or yours) belief system, but rather how he communicates it? Oakton hokie...killing one board at a time...

I glanced around that board... I wish our (old) board had more honest/legit liberals than we did. Several were real good, but a high % were just bad board citizens.

The wahoo board had more liberals (potentially a good thing), but an unacceptable level of hoo-ness. What a bunch of a-holes, by & large. But what would you expect on a hoo board?

Lake MonticellHokie wrote:your question of why oakton's got everyone upset has been answered already a few times.

UpstateSCHokie wrote:Lake MonticellHokie - I apologize for singling you out.

Lake MonticellHokie wrote:I've been called worse I suppose...than a pointed head academic know it all.

UpstateSCHokie wrote:...its almost like its a board full of Recepticals - or at least pointed headed academics. The one guy said he was not a teacher (but married to one), but he sure came off as an academic know it all. What world do those people live in? One where UVA is a heavy weight in football, and socialist policies work if implemented properly?

And I love how they lecture you on how you should open your mind to their ideas, meanwhile they just trash and ridicule any opinion that's not in line with their own school of thought. Hoos.
oaktonhokie wrote:Not to worry swabbie, I'm here.

Liberal whiners is all it is. They can't stand someone being just as condescending to them as they are us. So they're treating him like they do Limbaugh, attack, attack , and attack to silence the opposition. They only tolerate the wimpy apologetic type of pseudo conservative. That's a board with f bombs and GDs all over it. And they want to say he's combative? They should read their own stuff. Seemed like a bunch of a-holes and obnoxious Charlottesvillens. And so they're going to complain when someone gives it right back at them.

That's my take too. Their argument for everything is they went to UVA. Doesn't like a lot of thoughtful debate occurs over there.
