OUr president is speaking (that is, lying).
He will be happy to discuss issues with the Rs. Not just the things he thinks are important but the things THEY think are important also.
But not with a gun to his head.
He had the speaker in his office just last week. "We've been talking all kinds of business."
Senate democrats have asked the house Rs to sit down and hash out a budget, but the house has rejected them 19 times.
Really?
And the senate then passed a budget that reflected republican priorities.
Really?
Let's take a vote in the house right now. But um, not in the senate about the piecemeal funding before harry reid.
If congress refuses to raise the debt ceiling, America would not be able to meet it's financial obligations for the first time in its history.
Raising the debt ceiling does not increase the debt. It allows us to pay for stuff we already bought.
Then, an obligatory shot at the tea party....
He didn't mention why he voted against raising the debt ceiling as a senator....
We can't afford these manufactured crisis every six months.
We can't make extortion routine in this country.
It makes it look like we don't have our act together. Duh.
.........................
Question from AP, if the cr deal is short term, will you still talk with them?
Absolutely. I will not eliminate any topic of conversation. But we won't pay a ransom for America paying its bills.

I question his sanity. I'll speak of anything, but I won't talk about that.

I don't think POTUS is doing anyone any good talking about this. The Senate and House can throw stones at each other, but the POTUS has had 3 years to tell Reid to pass a budget and work with the House to get appropriations bills completed. I don't think anyone is under the illusion that he doesn't have the influence to demand that from Reid.
Where we are now is the result of several years of failed governance, from both parties, and the POTUS.
Yes, I think the govt shutdown lies more on the shoulders of the House in this instance (no need to have another super thread on us disagreeing on that point), but all sides have failed miserably to do what is right for the country, for a long time.

I think he's speaking because he's desperate. He'd be on the golf course if he thought he had this in the bag.
He looks small. But he's talking to libs, livs and the media.
So he's ok.

Re: OUr president is speaking (that is, lying).
The problem (I realize there's a long list) with this specific speech, is that he starts off with, "Right now, Congress should do what's in the best interest of the economy, the American people, and move beyond this manufactured crisis...". If he had only said that once in the past 3 years to Congress, I'd be more open to what he is saying. Is this crisis manufactured? Sure. It was planned.
But, the crisis is several years in the making, and this is really just the tipping point. The Senate knew that when they passed a budget earlier this year. They knew OCare was going to start on 10/1. They knew that if they didn't have a budget passed, that it would be done by CR, and that there was a high likelihood that the House would use that as it's tool to stop the ACA. So, they passed a budget to show that they were doing the right thing. And then they could take the high ground.
The House fell into that trap by not coming to conference on the budgets.
And here we are. All sides look like fools.

These questions from the WH press corps are pathetic. Pre-selected softballs.

Re: OUr president is speaking (that is, lying).
How about:
Mr president, do we even need a debt ceiling or should we just borrow unlimited amounts of money with no discussion at all?
Mr president, why did you vote against raising the debt ceiling as a senator?
Mr president, you want the house to vote on the senate bill but you have not asked the senate to vote on the piecemeal bills by the house to fund cancer care for kids for example. Why?
Too tough I guess...

Just got back from the dr and was going to ask if anyone there had asked any hardball questions. Then I thought, what would it matter. He's just lie anyway and the liv's would eat it up. Despicable
