Obviously the two cannot be compared. The Communications Advisor made a typo using a work related twitter account. You may disagree with his politics and the administration he works for, but no functioning person with his brain firing adequately would choose that forum to use that word, not to mention the fact that usage of the typo practically screams, "this is not the word I meant to use and obviously 'BIGGER' fits in context with my sentence!" If he got caught using it in another forum, it would be a different story. Here it's just probably embarrassing for him.
Ms. Dean used the word purposely. That said, she used it under highly emotional circumstances AND she used it many many years ago. I doubt she'll ever use that word again. I hate that word. Seriously, I wouldn't mind seeing it wiped from everyone's personal vocabulary. That said, losing your livelihood and being castigated repeatedly for it over and over again I cannot get on board with. She says inappropriate things that in all likelihood have or would make black people uncomfortable if they hear them (see her Sambo sandwich idea or pointing out how very black someone happens to be in front of other people by saying she can hardly pick him out because he's standing in front of a blackboard, etc.).
That makes her inappropriate. Maybe it makes her stupid, or mean spirited. I have no idea because I don't know the woman, but at a bare minimum, the two instances don't compare in my opinion.
