I'm trying to figure out what to do with this board now that Hokies have
infiltrated. They screwed up the one they had on TSL, now they want to
screw up this one as well and are actually taking pride in doing so.
I think maybe it's time to move this under the PPV roof and that will
eliminate much of the garbage. And for those who step well over the line,
they'll have a tough time justifying opening a second pay account after
getting suspended from the first.
Otherwise, I'm not sure there's any other way to keep this board going.
I'm getting too many complaints. And with football season upon us, I
really don't have the time to babysit a non-sports board.
I'm open to suggestions. But 'as is' isn't going to happen.

Board Host considering making the soapbox a pay board....
Wow really? All because of what? Some of us Hokies made a few posts over there?

Get a paid account and if they cancel it, do a chargeback on your credit card. Their merchant processor will charge them $25 a pop for those and you will drive that crazy, and likely get all your money refunded. All you have to say is that you were not given what promised.UpstateSCHokie wrote:Wow really? All because of what? Some of us Hokies made a few posts over there?

It's not that as much as it is dissenting opinions. The ones complaining the most are the most left-wing, insulting posters there. Le Sabre's version on Recip...

With their Cap’n and Chief Intelligence Officer having deserted them, River, Ham and Joe valiantly continue their whataboutismistic last stand of the DJT apology tour.

Re: Board Host considering making the soapbox a pay board...
So much of that is like the direction TSL UWS headed and that I hope we can avoid here. It's the same point 5150 made earlier. So much of the discussion among familiar posters isn't rooted in the topic at hand but in what people know, or presume to know, about the poster in question. Ideas aren't discussed without the framing of the poster's particular political leaning. What happens then is that discussion quickly degrades and not much is gained. That's a shame because I think what is noce about reading different perspectives is that one might be inclined to change perspective with a compelling case. We seemed to lose the ability to get to compelling cases.
I've been there too and I've learned and worked to change. I hope that us old-timers , out of respect for BigDave and his efforts here, can keep this forum on the up and up.

I think it's time the love movement made an appearance, to help them see the better path.

Re: Board Host considering making the soapbox a pay board...
I just posted this on TSL UWS, but this was probably a better venue. Especially since I had vowed never to post there again.
Re: Oakton's greatest hits on the soapbox
Some years ago, probably 10-15, there was a football message board on AOL that many of us posted on. Myself, Bronze(under a different name), Fleshmant, MassHokie, VTHokie, Hokie67, MD11f8..., Edgeman, to name a few, and even PHNC himself (also under a different name). It was a really good board, enjoyed by all untill AOL itself ruined it and many found their way to HokieCentral. However, there was one poster who went by the name of DiHrdHokie who single-handedly was responsible for the demise of the Hoo board. The banter was so obnoxious between the Hoo board and DiHrd they eventually picked up their ball and retreated to the Sabre in hopes that a monitored board with a password would never have to hear from him again.
Now, can Oakton bring the same kind of contentiousness to the Soapbox? Sound like fun.
Go Oakton.

board host will have to change the name. No soapbox in history charged the speaker for the opportunity to speak. change the name to elitist bath house.AZHokie wrote:I just posted this on TSL UWS, but this was probably a better venue. Especially since I had vowed never to post there again.

I remember the AOL board, Hope all is well AZ.
It was a good place. I didn't post a lot, as I don't follow the intricacies of our teams as well as others, but the discussions were informative and interesting. I particularly enjoyed the in-game chats. When it fell I moved more to the TSL boards but they are, or have become, insufferable at times. And, after a loss, forget about it.

Yo Arctic, been a really active monsoon this year. Both knees overhauled with 15 year guarantee and working to spec. Thanks for asking. OK if I go to BJ's instead? Thunder Canyon Brewery is still there but the food is better at BJ's.
I like BJ's:)
