Texas Brine was drilling into a salt dome (which are all over that part of LA) for NG storage. The wall of the salt dome collapsed though the reason really isn't known.
Texas Brine is pretty big here in Smyth County. The natural gas storage facilities for Duke Power are in Saltville and there has been a whole lot of drilling and preparing of the numerous salt caverns in the area. The big difference is the geology. At its most basic Saltville is in rock, Bayou Corne is in a bayou.
