I have noticed they are trying to get you to donate money to become a member. Without this additional support they say they can't make it. I won't go to the theaters at the malls as the punks ruin it. Keeping that small town vibe alive is tougher than ever I guess.
We have 3 here in Williamsburg. One is your typical national type, one is a Movie Tavern which has a more local feel, and then an "art theater" over by the college that shows indie films. That third one would be closed without the College.
"Russia? The 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back because the Cold War’s been over for 20 years.” - B. Obama
The Naro is still open in Norfolk. They show a lot of indie films and they still show Rocky Horror, complete with stage actors, several times ore year. I saw Gone With The Wind there when I was a kid and I saw Akira there when I was in high school. It's a neat place to see a film. A lot like when I saw films like the Blues Brothers at the Lyric in Blacksburg.
I don't care if you're a Democrat or a Republican... if you refuse to consider alternatives to the two parties, you support the Status Quo and you are a major part of the problem.
Staunton only has 2 local theaters. the one at the mall closed down cause people stopped going there and were going to the local theaters. they run first run movies complete with 3D although the dixie is asking for donations to stay open.
We have a local cinema- not a chain, but very nice nonetheless. The studios get all of their money up front on ticket sales so theaters often have a tough time making it. That's why ticket prices and concessions are so high. I'm a home theater buff so I don't visit the cinema very often.
