Only instead of smoked store bought freshwater trout, it's with smoked speckled trout (which isn't even a trout but as drum, anyway).

If any of the other anglers here are interested in catching them, it's getting to be that time. They're stacking up on slopes and shelves near current. They're fun to catch and you can get a bunch of them. Not as fun as reds in my opinion, but still worth the trip. But probably better eating.

As I recall, they have weak mouths so you have to be careful in setting the hook and not horsing them in.

Correct. But they inhale swimbaits, so I hook > 90% in the throat and the bones back there or the tongue. The sides of the mouth are like paper.

Dinks fight like crap too, but you can get a decent fight out of them once they get some shoulders which is the 20 inch range. Water temp is a factor too as they'll get sluggish in the colder temps. I got a 23 incher this spring that I thought was a drum at first because it hit so hard. That was in warmer water and it was a completely different fight than it is now with cool water.
