ECU has an All Pro defensive line

Post by miles »

WOW!
Hokies got lucky today. Cody Journel needs a colon cleanse.
But the big story was the outstanding play of the ECU defensive front against VT's vaunted offensive line.
Matador blocking techniques failed to work against Ruffin McNeil's defense. Thoroughly ass beaten run whiffing, er attempted blocking. Offensive line consistently knocked back 2 - 4 yards all afternoon.
Once again, the MVP was Bud Foster. His guys gutted out another game where they had to shoulder all the weight.

Journel needs to put the bong away...

we left 7 if not 10pts. on the field that would have turned a nail biter into a comfortable road win.

The defense was lights out after ECU's initial drive.

As a snide observation the C-USA refs for this game were horrid...they made PAC12 refs look great. The ECU O-line was performing some of the best wrestling holds I've ever seen.

Was there any word on what was up with the field goal kicking?

Was he rattled by the stadium announcer calling him Cody "Journal"? (tic)

It's been reported that Journel was suffering from lower back spasms earlier in the week.

Being a complete dick, I wondered out loud if he had been paid off by a bookie type to make sure we didn't cover the -7.5. If there is one player other than a qb who could blow a line, it's the kicker. He does have a criminal history if memory serves me correctly.

I love the fact I bring this up without getting baninated. :)

Seriously, it crossed my mind.

His criminal background consists of bringing a BB gun to a fight over a weed deal gone bad.
Which tells me two things.
First, that he's no badass but quite naive. I mean, who would bring a BB gun to such a thing? Shows me that he's not customarily in those 'circles'.
Second, that he doesn't do a lot of drugs. It is difficult for a deal to go bad if everyone knows what they're doing and have done it before.

I think a lot of people are being unfair to the young man. His episode made news in a big way.
I feel bad for his parents.

He was naive enough to bring a BB gun to a fight, over a pot deal that went bad because the participants didn't know what they were doing...and now some of y'all have him connected to the mob to move Vegas lines. Shaking my head.

We were wondering if it could be something like that. I mean, the guy has basically been "money" for us over his career here.
To miss ( was it 3 or 4?) that many was uncharacteristic.

Even the fan they pulled out of the stands in the Hardee's contest made her field goal.. for free biscuits!

Do we not have a backup kicker? If his back spasms were that bad on the three tries in a row, why in the world did we give him a fourth?

Not that I agree with much Lou Holtz says, but one of my favorite Louisms was when he said, my quarterbacks never had to worry about throwing four interceptions in a game because if they threw three, they were watching the game from the bench.
