UVA played like they'd been drinking Zima's all day.

They were outclassed in every aspect of the game and UMBC was on fire. As awesomeguy said UMBC's point guard knifed thru them like they weren't there...offensively the Hoo's were happier just sitting out there 25' from the bucket and hoisting up 3's which they didn't hit very many.

By the time the Hoo's figured out they were in deep doo it was over.

My Alma Mater is going to get their ass kicked by the couch burners tonight, aren’t they? Oh well, but it was a blast up to this point! Hope Elmore doesn’t declare or do some graduate transfer.

With te way this year's tourney is going I'd say that Marshall has as good a chance as any.

Only two one-seeds in the sweet 16? Ouch. There should have been a 16-seed in the sweet 16, but UMBC got royally screwed over by the officials.

Here are our standings after the first weekend:

1. BigDave (42) (Villanova over UVA, Kansas, and UNC)
2. Doug (40) (Villanova over UVA, Xavier and Michigan St)
3. Elberto (38) (Michigan over Michigan St, Cincinnati and Villanova)
4. Bay Area Hokie (37) (UVA over Duke, Virginia Tech and Michigan)
5. UpstateSCHokie (36) (Michigan St over Arizona, UNC and Purdue)
5. Major Kong (36) (Arizona over Kansas, UNC and TTU)
7. Nolan (34) (Michigan St over UVA, Michigan and Villanova)
8. HokieFanDC (32) (Duke over Arizona, UNC and Villanova)
9. IP Law Hokie (31) (Cincinnati over WVU, Houston and NC State)

Nobody is completely eliminated - there is enough diversity of final four picks that everyone still has some chance at winning.

Trivia question that never gets old: who is the only 1-seed to lose to a 16-seed in the NCAA men's basketball tournament?

So last night, I turned away from Clemson when it was a 20-point game and then they came all the way back and made a game of it at the end. Duke-Syracuse also had a lot of drama, but I fell asleep just after the ball was tossed into the air. (I'm getting old.)

IP and Upstate are eliminated by virtue of not having no more possible points. Nolan and Doug don't have enough picks that differ with people above and so they are also eliminated. Everyone else is still alive.

1. BigDave (54) (Villanova over UVA, Kansas, and UNC)
2. Elberto (50) (Michigan over Michigan St, Cincinnati and Villanova)
3. Doug (49) (Villanova over UVA, Xavier and Michigan St)
4. Major Kong (48) (Arizona over Kansas, UNC and TTU)
5. Nolan (46) (Michigan St over UVA, Michigan and Villanova)
6. Bay Area Hokie (43) (UVA over Duke, Virginia Tech and Michigan)
7. HokieFanDC (41) (Duke over Arizona, UNC and Villanova)
8. UpstateSCHokie (39) (Michigan St over Arizona, UNC and Purdue)
9. IP Law Hokie (31) (Cincinnati over WVU, Houston and NC State)

Elberto's pick of Michigan is looking sharp right now. FSU just got outcoached. You're playing against a Michigan team in a world of foul trouble that shoots horrible foul shots and you're not playing an incredibly physical game for the last 10 minutes?

1. Elberto (54) (Michigan over Michigan St, Cincinnati and Villanova)
1. BigDave (54) (Villanova over UVA, Kansas, and UNC)
3. Nolan (59) (Michigan St over UVA, Michigan and Villanova)
4. Doug (49) (Villanova over UVA, Xavier and Michigan St)
5. Major Kong (48) (Arizona over Kansas, UNC and TTU)
6. Bay Area Hokie (47) (UVA over Duke, Virginia Tech and Michigan)
7. HokieFanDC (41) (Duke over Arizona, UNC and Villanova)
8. UpstateSCHokie (39) (Michigan St over Arizona, UNC and Purdue)
9. IP Law Hokie (31) (Cincinnati over WVU, Houston and NC State)

Following Villanova's defeat of TTU, we are down to three people who can possibly win: Elberto, BigDave, and HokieFanDC:

Michigan beats Loyola Chicago UNLESS Villanova wins the national title: Elberto
Villanova wins the national title: BigDave
Duke over Loyola Chicago for the national title: HokieFanDC
Loyola Chicago over Duke for the national title: Elberto and BigDave tie
Loyola Chicago over Kansas or Villanova for the national title: BigDave
Kansas over Loyola Chicago for the national title: BigDave

Congrats on the win Dave.
With their Cap’n and Chief Intelligence Officer having deserted them, River, Ham and Joe valiantly continue their whataboutismistic last stand of the DJT apology tour.
