So Presbyterian assembly allows same sex marriage-comments?

Individual churches will have to 'confirm' this, but apparently there's not a huge fight expected. Clergy with same sex partners were approved three years ago, I believe. It takes effect where such marriages are otherwise legal, as I understand it.

if society likes the way this is going, great for them. but lets be fair since the term marriage is being opened up. to be fair anybody should be able to marry anything or anybody, if you don't think that is the next step then you are not seeing where society is going.

Any other scriptures they outright dismiss? They could save themselves a lot of grief by dropping "church" in their name in favor of "country club" or "organization".

I vaguely remember when I was laughed at for suggesting that Christian churches will "evolve" by supporting SSM. Churches are about getting butts in the seats.

It is laughable. And churches accommodating of the ghey are in decline. Them ignoring clear scripture undermines their authority. The Presbyterians are a great example of the harm coming to those churches ignoring the word.

The deal is that while true that we all sin, the church should not openly promote and condone sinful behavior. That is indeed against scripture.

The PC is WAY off track on this.

if you marry homosexuals, how can you say homosexuality is a sin? The act of Holy matrimony would be undermined by the relationship itself being unholy. It's like performing a marriage while worshiping a golden calf and then claiming you're Christian.

Exactly. And while you may see some of the more liberal sects allow this (it's not "evolving" btw), it reflects the hierarchy of the church "leaders" turning away from scripture.

But this also can be found in the Bible so it comes as no real surprise that some "churches" are devolving.

Yeah, we are, but the Scriptures call us to repent-to turn from our sin. Do you really want to be a part of a church that condones sin? If so, you compromise the gospel.

Yup. It is a total disregard for the authority and inerrancy of Scripture.

I see no issue with churches opening their doors to any and all. Sin is sin and churches are full of sinners. Same sex couples should be welcome to attend. But they do so knowing that the subject of sin will be brought up and that it is addressed in the Bible.

But the church should not sanctions sin in any form by performing same sex marriages.

I just wonder what's next? Soon the vatican will be marrying two gay guys in the name of "equality" (read benefits- i.e. money). So what is the next 2-3% of the population cause that folks like Nolan are going to get behind? The gays won- good for them, who's next?

I agree. But churches should NOT accept as members those openly living in sin. Church discipline has taken a back seat in our day and age.

I'm actually not a fan of "membership" in a church. I don't see any real Biblical requirement for it. The church should be available for all and not give preference to "members". JMHO.

And no ghey clergy.

I can see them using the playbook the libs did in the 60s to now for education. Infiltrate the clergy and rot the church from within. Change interpretations and practices to embrace this sinful lifestyle. Churches should be on the lookout for imposters.

Some people in this thread are confused on the distinction between trying not to sin and failing vice condoning/endorsing the sin.

Ignoring your slur and political commentary, I agree that by allowing an openly gay person to serve in a clergy position is also not acceptable to scripture and does show endorsement of sin.

Also, just in case not everyone knows, PC USA isn't every Presbyterian. My wife's family are members of the PCA Church and they couldn't be more different.
